Why Your Dog Feels “Off” in Spring (Part 1 of 6)

And it's not just allergies

You know the shift.

Your dog is suddenly:

  • itchier

  • more reactive

  • restless at night

  • a little more… on edge

And most people jump straight to: “Allergies.”

But spring is doing more than kicking up pollen.

This is liver season.

In Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, spring is tied to the Wood Element — and Wood governs:

  • Liver

  • Gallbladder

  • Movement

  • Growth

  • Direction

So when things aren’t flowing well… it shows up everywhere.

You’ll start to notice patterns:

  • red or irritated eyes

  • yeast in ears, groin, under the tail

  • waking between 1–3am

  • sudden itchiness

  • ligament strain or injury

  • mood changes or reactivity

This isn’t random.

This is stagnation trying to move.

And if the body doesn’t have a clean way to move it… it comes out as symptoms.

Here’s the part most people miss:

Spring doesn’t create problems.

It exposes them.

This is why I coach my clients to do a liver cleanse in the spring. While we’re in the season of liver and before we begin all those exposures to glysophate, yard chemicals, heartworm meds, and those pet parents who have long used Flea and Tick Products.
