Because in a perfect world, we would look at each dog as an individual. We would look at age, size, immune history, vaccine history, chronic disease, cancer, seizures, autoimmune issues, organ stress, medication load, and overall fragility. We would ask a very reasonable question: Is this dog healthy enough for another rabies vaccine right now?
But rabies is not treated like every other vaccine. Rabies is a public health law issue. That means your veterinarian may not have much wiggle room, even when they agree your dog is medically fragile. And in many areas, getting a rabies waiver is becoming harder, not easier.
