The last 2+ weeks in review
The Well Oiled K9
Never give up on troubleshooting and looking for answers — I won’t.
It’s been a crazy busy couple of weeks, so here’s a quick “what you may have missed”
and important communication updates.
June Kidney Detox Protocol
June is our seasonal kidney support month.
This is a good time to review the protocol, gather supplies, and support the body’s natural detox pathways before summer stress really kicks in.

It’s also the start of TCVM Fire season, so be watching for signs of heat, inflammation, restlessness, skin flare-ups, and other “too much heat” patterns.

Fireworks Are Coming
July 4th is not one night anymore.
Around here, fireworks happen before, during, and after the holiday. If your dog struggles with noise, now is the time to prepare — not at 8:47 p.m. while your neighbor is already launching chaos.
You are running out of time to order supplies. And yes, you are late to the game for desensitization exercises, but still read them anyway. They can help with storm season too — and next year you’ll be ahead of the game.

Beach Safety for Dogs
Beach days are fun until they aren’t.
Hot sand, salt water, dehydration, jellyfish, skin irritation, and post-beach cleanup all matter more than people realize.
A few things you should be familiar with:
Saltwater toxicity
Blue-green algae
Heat stroke
Paw pad burns
Post-beach skin irritation
A little preparation goes a long way.

New Puppy Guide With Longevity in Mind
I’m working on a new puppy guide that goes beyond potty training and chewing.
We’ll talk about nutrition, gut health, vaccines, parasites, toxins, behavior, movement, and how early decisions shape long-term health.
I think you may be surprised — maybe even wowed — by how much content is already available to you. No, I don’t expect you to read it all at once. But the goal is for it to be there when something comes up.

Flea & Tick Season: Go Natural, But Have a Plan
Flea and tick season is here, and this is not the time to guess.
I’ve been adding resources on natural prevention, what to do if you find a tick, and how to support your dog after exposure. A lot of people are still struggling to get fleas and ticks under control, so please use the resources available to you.
Read more on my website, and join the community conversation if you have questions.

Heartworm Season Has Started Here
In my area, it’s time to begin heartworm prevention.
Trust me — this is not a “do nothing” disease. You need a prevention plan of some kind. We’ve already done our first round and aftercare support here.
You can find the free heartworm download here:

Behavior, Nutrition, and “It Depends”
We’ve been talking a lot about why behavior is not separate from health.
Nutrition, gut health, stress, structure, leadership, pain, and the human side of the leash all matter.
This is also why so many good professionals answer questions with “it depends” and then start asking even more questions.
It honestly makes me sad when I get a call about an aggressive or anxious dog and the pet parent thinks I’m crazy for asking, “What does the dog eat?”
We even did a podcast on this topic.

New YouTube and Podcast Topics
DogSplaining is now on its own YouTube channel.
We’re bringing in guest speakers too. New episodes include choosing a great pet sitter, summer heat safety, and next week we’ll be talking about RV travel with dogs and natural CCL repair with my friend Jennifer Carter.
Have a topic to present with us — let me know!

The Well Oiled K9 YouTube channel will also be getting a refresh and will focus on nutrition and wellness only.

Remedies Class: You’re Going to Need Oils
Let’s just say it plainly: if you follow my work, essential oils are going to come up.
Please review the Remedies Class and send questions or feedback through the community. The Remedies Class is offered at no added cost with community membership until July 6.
Get in there!!
Online First Aid Guide
The First Aid Guide is organized by situation and includes essential oil, homeopathy, herb, and supportive care suggestions.
This is the kind of resource you want to know exists before something happens.
Updated Guides and New Resources
I’ve also been working through several guides, educational resources, and new blogs on both The Well Oiled K9 and K9 Coach.
Check them out when you have a few minutes.
Some are public and many in the member access area.
Member Access Area Search Improvements
I reworked the search options in the member area so it’s easier to find what you need.
The website is meant to become a true self-help library, and I update it often based on your questions and my learning-junkie life.
More Member Content Coming to Community
Think of it like a WAY Better Facebook group without all the noise, ads, drama, and other nonsense. And a way to can educate everyone simultaneously for things that matter to everyone with a dog — even long after your current health issue is resolved or your consulting program ends
I’ve decided one of the biggest challenges is to the new client with an active health concern / package of services who is overwhelmed — relative to the larger group of learners and those wanting to to keep up with the seasons, updates, new resources and info.
I made that mess and I’m fixing it :-)
I’m slowly adding more member content into the paid community area so you can use one app to read, comment, ask questions, and join chats.
The website still has the deeper library and will remain the main resource hub.
Building something new is hard. Change can be frustrating. Trust me, the technology has frustrated me too. One tiny checkbox can break something, and then I’m off trying to figure out why the whole thing is acting possessed.
So yes, I know change is hard. I know it can be annoying when something moves or when I ask you to use a different system. But I am making these changes so the resources are easier to find, easier to use, and available when you actually need them.
The goal is not to add frustration. The goal is to make the support better.
Price Increase — July 6
The community / member access area is getting very rich in content, and the price will increase for new subscribers after July 6.
If you are already a paid member, no change will occur for you — even at future renewal. This will only affect new members joining after July 6.

Remedies Class — new members will receive 50% off
It’s free right now if you’re a member of the community before July 6.
The Homemade Food Course — 50% off

Communication Update
I tried. I really did. I still am.
But I’m overwhelmed too, and the Substack Inbox does not do what I’m trying to force it to do.
Business is growing, which is a good problem to have, but it is still a problem when it affects my ability to support you well. I value customer service too much to let that continue.
My current inbox is complete chaos. It includes scheduling notices, forms, affiliate programs updates & sales, banking, insurance, renewals, random business emails, and client questions all in one place.
That is not working anymore. I need to care for my clients separately.
Effective July 5, consulting clients will have a different email address to reach me for support. It will be shared with you separately in a day or two because I do not want it floating around publicly.
Please remember: some systems, including scheduling, Mailchimp, forms, and other platforms, may still appear to come from dana@k9coach.dog. That does not mean it is the best place to send support questions going forward — and there will be an auto-reply to remind you.
Trust me, I know change is frustrating and no one is at fault but me. I am also going to have to unravel about 15 years of using one email and outlook. That should be fun. Or not.
But this change is necessary.
Text Messages
I don’t usually say this, and I have always answered I always will, but text is not my favorite way to handle client questions.
I find it interruptive during calls, meetings, meals, downtime, and focused work. I am a one-person business, and I am often working with multiple clients each day. I came from a world in Microsoft where a text was always urgent — aka mission critical.
Please call me for emergencies.
Please email non-emergency questions.
Also, if we are going back and forth through several emails and the conversation becomes more involved, it will become a quick chat consultation with applicable fees or deductions from your package.
That is not meant to be harsh. It is meant to keep support clear, fair, and sustainable. To many of you are currently left wondering why I haven’t replied yet.
Help Build the Community
Use comments. Use Chat.
Most questions I’m asked are questions that would benefit everyone. When conversations happen in the community, everyone learns — not just the person who asked.
I also love your photos, videos, status updates, and quick notes, so please drop them in Chat. Get to know your fellow pet parents!
Don’t Miss Updates
I’m trying to limit sending group emails to one or two per week unless it’s a really important topic along with this “in review” series. If you turn off notifications completely, you will miss a lot.
Start with the links. Search the website. Check the paid community area. And when you have questions, use comments or Chat when you can so everyone can learn from the conversation. (Download the substack app from your app store).
Don’t be shy. Use it. I’ll be in there answering questions.
Zoom Lives
Are you interested in attending Zoom lives?
I know finding one common time for everyone is impossible, but I also don’t want to schedule them and have zero attendees. Let me know if this is something you would actually use.
Thank You
Thanks for being here, for asking great questions, and for caring enough to keep learning.
Love you mean it and I ask for a little grace as I fix the “systems”
Nothing matters to me more than helping your dog — truly.
Dana
