Prepping for July 4th
Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸
…oh wait.
It’s April.
If your heart rate just spiked a little thinking about fireworks, pacing, panting, barking, hiding, shaking you’re exactly who this post is for.
Because here’s the deal 👇
You don’t prepare for the 4th of July on July 3rd.
You prepare now. Starting Today.
You’ve got about 3 months to:
• Desensitize to sound (slow, intentional exposure)
• Support the nervous system (this is not just a “behavior issue”)
• Work on gut health (yes… your dog’s microbiome plays a role in reactivity and stress response)
• Build calming routines that actually mean something to your dog
• Stock up on the tools you plan to use (not panic-ordering the night before) Essential Oils, July 3rd, Calm The Shen, CBD, Rescue Remedy to name a few -- if what you tried last year didn't work, try another or a combo. But don't rely on the "products" alone.
• Create a game plan that includes enrichment + high-value rewards to redirect their brain during the chaos. Rehearse it.
And let me remind you about something most people don’t want to hear…
👉 If you spend the entire day stressed, annoyed at your neighbors, and anticipating the worst, your dog will too.
They don’t just hear fireworks.
They feel YOU.
So instead of “doom's day energy start practicing calm, structured, confident leadership now.
Make it a training day.
Make it a food game day.
Make it predictable.
Because confidence is created, perhaps trained, and not wished for.
If your dog struggled last year, don’t repeat the same plan and hope for a different outcome.
Stay tuned for an upcoming Live to discuss strategies and products.
